Prepare for the Worse - Get Medical Insurance

It would be more costly on your part not to have a medical insurance. This means that you would have to pay medical expenses such as medicines, hospitalization and doctors’ consultation fees out of your own pocket. Unless you have big savings in the bank, unexpected trips to the doctor or to a medical facility can put a lot of strain in your family’s budget. Not only that, what if you will lose your job and a family member suddenly becomes ill? Who can you turn to for financial help?

Even people with hefty bank accounts secure themselves with a reliable health insurance. It is unwise to touch your savings when someone needs to go see a doctor or be admitted into a hospital for surgery if you can have some health insurance provider pay the bills on your behalf. Having a medical insurance serves as your security in times when money is difficult to come by and someone gets sick and needs medical attention.

Medical insurance can cover up to hundreds of thousands of medical bills depending on your plans or policy. Different medical insurance companies have different insurance policies and the coverage also varies for each plan. So, before you buy an insurance policy, make sure you know what you need. This pertains to the type of coverage that you would like to have-for example a medical insurance that includes a dental plan.

Get Medical Insurance

With the recent discoveries in medical technology and treatments, the costs for health care also increase. They may have been relatively lower a few years back but health care costs are not likely to go down in the near future. You need to protect yourself from these costs. Injuries and other illnesses cannot be anticipated and they can cost you a fortune.

Also, you are likely to take care of yourself when you have a medical aid. You will not worry about the money that will be used to pay for the consultation because you can go in and have yourself checked almost on a cashless way.

Not all are lucky to end up with good health insurance coverage, though. Others met rather unfortunate situations where in they lost coverage while trying to transfer to a new health insurance provider. This is usually caused by pre-existing conditions. Some health conditions that are discovered during the period that they were covered by the previous health insurance provider may run the risk of being classified as pre-existing conditions by the new insurance provider. But don’t fret because effective January 2014, according the healthcare law, health insurance companies will be prohibited from denying applicants coverage due to some pre-existing health conditions.

Having pre-existing medical conditions can sometimes fill someone with dread. What if no one will take you or the premium becomes too expensive for your budget because you have an existing illness? Such fears are natural and understandable especially on this case where pre-existing condition is the major contributing factor, but all these should not stop you from getting insured medically.

Health Insurance from a Medical Perspective

As the cost of health insurance has increased immensely over the past few years, the topic of health insurance has come to the forefront of almost everyone’s mind. Politically, it is a hotly debated item of this year’s elections in the U.S. Yet, health insurance is not merely a political tool for candidates to hurl around. Many people have learned how health insurance directly impacts them, as they have had to choose whether to pay higher costs for their own insurance. Few people have stopped to consider what medical professionals think of health insurance. What is a doctor’s, nurse’s or nurse aide’s (CNA’s) opinion in the midst of the health insurance debate? Why do they think health insurance is important?

Health Insurance Companies are Annoying

Even for doctors, nurses, EMTS and CNAs, health insurance companies are annoying. They are often viewed as a necessary evil. People do not usually enter the medical profession because they like to file paperwork. If they wanted to do that for a living, they would have become accountants. People become medical professionals, whether they are doctors or CNAs, because they want to help others. They enjoy assisting people who are in need and making others well. Dealing with insurance companies is not fun for anyone, but every job has its drawbacks.

Health Insurance is Necessary

Even though most medical professionals would rather not deal with health insurance companies, they realize that these companies are necessary. They are as important to the healthcare system as doctors and hospitals are. Without insurance companies, many people would be unable to afford the costs of treatment. Without the payments, doctors, nurses, nurse aides and others would not be able to go through the thorough training they have. They would be less prepared to provide a high level of care to patients.

Every Person Should Have Health Insurance

From a medical perspective, every person should have health insurance. It is almost a civic duty, but medical professionals disagree to what extent that civic duty should be enforced. In the United States, patients will never be refused treatment at an emergency room. So, people always have a place they can go to for medical care. However, everyone should be insured. People who are uninsured hurt others in two ways. When a person seeks medical treatment from a doctor, but the patient cannot afford the costs, the doctor’s heart is often broken. For various reasons, treatment cannot be given out free to whoever walks in the door, aside from at emergency rooms. Yet, doctors, nurses, CNAs and all medical professionals want to provide care. They are sad when people suffer without insurance. If a person must go to the emergency room for care, then he should do so. He will not be turned away, even if he is uninsured. Nevertheless, that patient is getting a free ride at other’s expense. He is either causing others to pay more for their care, or else the money used for his treatment could have been spent on research. Health insurance is important, and everyone should have it. Medical professionals, however, do not agree on the best method of administering it in the U.S. If they had their way, everyone would be able to afford care. It is a matter of figuring out how to accomplish that goal.

Top 5 tips on finding great health insurance deals

We cannot prevent fickle health conditions or predict life, but we can plan to minimize the damage it brings along. To reduce the acquired medical expenses and weigh down the financial burden incurred due to sudden illness, accident, pre-existing conditions etc., a health insurance is provided by the state or central government, private agencies or non-profit organizations.

But as every coin has two sides, with health insurance policy comes certain terms and reclaiming ppi conditions.Since it is a contract between the policy provider and the individual or the sponsoring organization, this is:

a) mandatory (if it is a national plan) or
b) Renewable (monthly or annually) or
c) Lifelong (mostly private insurance)

And like every contract, it is liable to obligations that are levied on the insurance policy holder and the policy giver. When opting for a policy, the policy holder is bound to some of the following mandatory terms:

Health Insurance

Premium: The amount paid by the policy holder towards the medical coverage

Co-payment: The payment made by the insured from his pocket before the insurer pays for doctor’s visit

Deductible: Pre-determined money paid by the insured till it reaches the maximum slab, and the policy-provider starts paying from then on.

Coinsurance: An additional to, or instead of payment to the co-pay. For example, the insured might have to pay 30% while the rest is paid by the insurance agency.

Coverage: A limit to health coverage. For example some health benefit plans may not fully pay pre-existing conditions

Exclusions: Certain health conditions are totally excluded from the health plan. For example pregnancy is excluded from most of the health plans

While considering a good health insurance, review these points to help guide you in choosing a better plan for you and your family

1. Ask for the premium that you have to pay, and time and amount that goes in for its renewal
2. Understand the coverage offered by the plan and opt for the one that has maximum coverage or required health coverage. See that there is lesser out-of-pocket expense and the percentage of coverage from the policy should cover the regular health requirements like dental, eye check-ups, etc.
3. Some private health insurance offer PPI along with health insurance, if possible avail that facility since a PPI claim helps during job loss due to illness, redundancy, etc.
4. When making choices about private health insurance, ask an insurance advisor about the restrictions it may cast on the insured related to the place, doctor, or number of visits
5. Apprehend the government sponsored local health insurance plans and make use of free resources.

Life insurance: the truth behind its myths

Life insurance is one of the most neglected parts of a person’s financial planning. Though life insurance is used by millions around the world, yet there are very few people who understand its importance. Majority of the masses are ignorant of the financial jargon related to life insurance and don’t have the urge to know about them. This lack of awareness gives birth to rumors. People blindly follow these rumors which get established in the society as myths. Once these myths take roots in the society, these are next to impossible to get rid of. Myths have the power to initiate a new trend and break the previous one. This is why this article is dedicated to demystify the myths of life insurance.

1) Myth: Life insurance is not for the unemployed.

Truth: You may not be employed but that doesn't undermine the need to have life insurance coverage for yourself. This is because in the absence of parents, the cost of house maintenance and childcare may run into several thousand dollars annually. Many parents are reluctant to buy a life insurance because they cannot afford to pay the annual premiums.

However, when these people are employed, they should calculate their family’s monthly expenses and buy an insurance policy of that amount.

2) Myth: Life insurance – The costlier, the better

Truth: This is not case at all. On the other hand, it is better to buy cheap term insurance than buying the expensive ones. Basically, this kind of insurance does not require any extra investment. Pay your premiums on time and you’ll get your coverage. This is why it is also known as “pure” insurance. You can purchase term life insurance based on your requirement. This means you can decide for how long you want the policy to cover you. For instance, you can take term life insurance policy which will provide coverage till your children are independent or till the time of your retirement.

Life Insurance Images

These kinds of insurance policies are very profitable because the premiums remain constant for about 30 years. Another advantage of it is, you are given the flexibility to change the term. All you have to do is to stop paying the premium that will result in the termination of your policy. However, it is costly to extend the term of this kind of insurance.

3) Myth: Every living human being must have life insurance coverage.

Truth: It is not at all necessary to have life insurance coverage for everyone living on this Earth. The main objective to purchase this policy is to make oneself feel more secure financially. It acts as an alternative source of income in the event of loss of job.

4) Myth: It is quite harassing to get a life insurance

Truth: This was true to some extent, until Internet simplified the entire process of obtaining a life insurance. If you search the Internet, then you’ll get countless insurance quotes within a couple of minutes. There are several reputable insurance companies to purchase a policy. Do a thorough research of the insurance company you want to purchase and get the insurance quotes from them instantly.

Compare that quote with other online insurance quotes before making the final decision. It is better to consult a trusted insurance agent in this matter. On the other hand, many insurance companies have online forms. You can download them, fill it up and send you application directly over the Internet. However, you should verify the insurance company’s market reputation and look for certifications from Internet based business rating organizations like Better Business Bureau (BBB).

Lastly, there are a lot of myths which is not possible to discuss here. However, you must know the truths because buying a wrong life insurance policy may get you in debt.

Save the Planet While Saving Money

Green living choices are often thought to be more expensive than business as usual. Buying only organic produce at the grocery store and purchasing an electric vehicle can certainly take a chunk out of your pocketbook, but green living will actually save you money on the whole. Consider this short list of three of the more cost-effective actions you can take today to lessen your impact on the planet.

Slow Food

The convenience food industry is a threat to the environment and your health. Most sit-down restaurants, nearly all drive-through restaurants, and most other convenience foods contain heavy doses of artificial ingredients and preservatives. Most real ingredients are shipped from distant farms to distant processing and packaging factories before being shipped again to market. Even with taxpayer-funded subsidies to farmers of corn, rice and soy commonly used as filler ingredients, consumers end up paying extra for convenience.

A slow but immediate way to start saving and going green is to prepare more meals at home. Modern appliances, such as bread-makers, rice steamers and box dehydrators, make it easy to do so without spending hours in a hot kitchen. Home-cooked meals provide a gateway into concerns over food freshness, the competitive pricing of produce at farmers' markets, and other planet-saving activities like herb and vegetable gardening.

Reuse!

The consumer lifestyle is based on redundancy and alienation. Many elderly citizens can remember a time when children from the entire block gathered at the one home with a television at a specific time to watch their favorite program. As the number of channels and programs grew and televisions became more affordable, everyone stayed in their own home to watch their own favorite programs. This basic scenario has played out across the entire consumer landscape. Researchers recently discovered the average power tool, for instance, is only used for 30 minutes its entire life. How many homes on your block have the same type of power drill?

Building community is the greenest action anyone can take because it helps in pooling resources and knowledge. Small steps, like forgoing a purchase in favor of sharing an item, are a great start. Freecycle is another option. People from all over the area post items they no longer want or need, and others claim them on a first-come basis. Instead of rushing to the store or trash bin, consider the power of reusing as a money-saving tool of conservation.

Starting at Home

Houses are seemingly designed to be resource guzzlers. As a result, there are nearly limitless possibilities in your home for energy conservation. Basic maintenance of appliances, from the water heater to the HVAC unit, will save on energy bills and reduce repair costs.

Weatherizing the home with simple steps like caulking cracks in window frames, installing insulation with the help of home tax credits, and installing shade cloth blinds will save you hundreds every year. Tax credits are also available for larger changes that will reduce energy usage even further. Solar or tankless water heaters, geothermal HVAC, and energy star appliances are all great options.

Americans make up eight percent of the global population, and researchers have estimated they use 25 percent of total resources. It is easy to feel discouraged with these numbers, but it really means even small actions here can have enormous benefits for the planet. They can also save you a bundle year after year.

Life Insurance and Taxes

Life insurers generate profits in at least two ways. First, is that not all individuals who entered into a contract of insurance qualify for recovery and thus the closing cost as well as the premiums paid remain for the account of the insurer. Second, the money collected by the insurer is loaned or invested in different business ventures in order to create profit. Remember an insurer usually collects monthly premium\ms hence it is not only the money on hand that they can invest but the certainty of a specific collection amount. With profits come taxes and this is what this article is all about, taxes applicable to life insurance policies.

Power of Taxation

The inherent right of the state to collect funds on any action of its citizen. The relationship between life insurance and taxation is a bit tricky to explain. On one hand life insurance can provide a certain degree of benefit or shielding and on the other taking out life insurance can prove to have certain tax consequences.
Benefit: Lump Sum Payments are Not Taxable

Life Insurance Images

Any lump sum payment by an insurer to an insured is tax free. A possible exception to this is if the deceased originated the policy and the named beneficiary is the same or the estate. However, if the beneficiary is the spouse and/or children then taking out a life insurance policy to convert a taxable part of the estate into tax free lump sum payment/payments is a viable option. By way of example, the life insurance policy of Mr. A provides that upon his death the entire award for the life insurance policy will be given in lump sum to his beloved wife.

Drawback: Installment Payment are Taxable

In some cases the named insured wants to have the moneys given ion installment to serve as a regular allowance for the family for a specified period of time after his or her death. The problem with this arrangement is that these installment payments will be taxable. However to be more specific compute the percentage of installments that is taxed and not taxed. The formula is the total amount to be received divided by the number of years of payment to be received on installment. Any remainder will be considered interest and is taxable as income. For example, if the life insurance policy of Mr. A provides that upon his death his wife will receive $1,000 monthly allowance for 10 years then each installment is taxable.
Benefit: Policy of Mutual Insurance Maybe Taxable

A policy of mutual insurance that allows the originator to earn dividends on a regular basis is not taxable as a general rule. By way of exception, any dividend installment received over and above the premium payments made is taxable as to the difference. This scenario is highly unlikely but still possible. Take note that these dividends are dividends from your life insurance policy not dividends on shares of stocks in a corporation which is always taxable. For example, the policy of life insurance requires regular premium payments of $100. If the insurer gives out dividends on a regular basis and the amount given for one dividend payment exceeds $100 then the excess is taxable.

Get the best Life Insurance

Pregnancy is one of the life changing events that a lot of fortunate women experience. It is a delicate phase especially for first time expectant moms. It also means added responsibility. Your own welfare is no longer your only concern but your family’s welfare as well. This priority shift will lead you to think about your finances. That is why a lot of women miss out on getting themselves life insurance policies when they are still single or not yet pregnant. Only when they have one on the way, do they realize the value of taking out a life insurance policy.

Nobody wants to have something bad happen to themselves and their family, but life is full of surprises. Unfortunate events do happen and when you are unprepared financially, your loved ones who are left behind might suffer from financial burden. Keep in mind that once the baby is born, there will be a lot of expenses. If something unpleasant happens to you, your husband would be left alone to pay the bills. Consider getting a life insurance during pregnancy and think of the peace of mind it would bring.

Life Insurance images

A lot of insurance companies offer life insurance for pregnant women. The only setback is that insurance companies charge a higher premium as compared to a woman who is not pregnant. The reason is that pregnant women have high risks which also mean that the mortality rate for them is high. However, this should not make an expectant mom from hesitating to get insurance. Although the ideal time to get one is before pregnancy, it is understandable that you only think about insurance once you get pregnant because it can be a bit pricy to get a policy.

It is advisable that expectant mothers get insurance policy on the early stage of pregnancy which is during the first and second trimesters. Pregnancy may give rise to complications. Insurance companies do not want that and decline coverage, while other companies who would want to, will charge higher premium rates because of the higher risks. One of the common complications that a pregnant woman may suffer from is gestational diabetes. Another is hypertension or having a high blood pressure. These complications usually start to manifest during the latter stage or third trimester of pregnancy that is why it is advised that you get insurance early.

In order to get a good deal in getting insurance, you need to show that you have a good medical condition evidenced by medical records. Complications will have a great bearing as to the amount of your insurance premium. Disclosure of all health conditions is very important because women who have had health complications in a former pregnancy might be denied compensation because of fraud. Likewise, other conditions such as women who have undergone caesarian birth in the past are charged higher premiums.

You are going to undergo medical examination which will determine your weight as well as your cholesterol levels. Pregnancy causes cholesterol levels to fluctuate, and insurance companies charge higher premiums for those who have high cholesterol levels. Even if it is advisable to get life insurance before pregnancy, it is not yet late to protect your family’s finances. You can do so by getting insurance immediately from the time that you learn that you are pregnant.

FATCA: What it means to offshore banking?

One of the biggest offshore banking frauds in history involving US$20 billion in undeclared funds by wealthy US based residents was found to be facilitated by UBS, a 150-year old Swiss bank. UBS has since admitted the fault, paid a hefty US$780 million fine and with the backing of the Swiss parliament, handed over a comprehensive list of tax evading clients to the US authorities.

The US tax authority’s success in breaking the Swiss banking code of secrecy has led the drafting and passing of a tough new law in the US restricting the ability of international banks to hide funds from the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The new law is called the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). Essentially FATCA requires all non-US financial institutions to identify and disclose offshore accounts and offshore investments held by US residents to the IRS. The penalty for non-compliance by any financial institution or entity is a 30% deduction of income gained from US shares or other assets.

Off Shore Banking Images

The US Treasury Department recently announced that Europe’s five largest economies are discussing with the US how FATCA can be legally implemented in the UK, France, Spain, Germany and Italy. The five countries are in agreement that FATCA has the potential to significantly combat global banking secrecy, fraud and international tax evasion through offshore accounts and offshore investing

The five countries are currently discussing an inter-governmental approach to FATCA in an effort to reduce the costs to the financial industry that the new law creates. An inter-governmental approach will allow offshore banking and offshore investing entities to report to the tax authorities in their country of origin and not the IRS in the US. The idea is that information would automatically be shared and the US would reciprocate, exchanging information on offshore accounts held in the US by French, Spanish, German, English and Italian residents.

There is no doubt that the multilateral implementation of FATCA will effectively reduce the ability of clients and institutions to hide money offshore.
